In addition to acting in a primary, full-time role as Senior Electrical Engineer, the Assistant Manager, will act as secondary support to the Discipline Manager in the leadership of the Electrical Engineering department.
The Assistant Manager will collaborate with other group Managers and Assistant Managers to effectively allocate resources to deliver projects on time and within budget, and support all quality related initiatives. The Assistant Manager will also act as a resource to staff and as a liaison between staff and Discipline Manager.
Secondary support activities include: supervision of day-to day department operational issues, staffing assignments, deliverable quality, production efficiency, cost effectiveness, annual review assistance and client service.
Resource and liaison functions include: interaction with department staff to advance their professional development, champion their involvement in professional organizations, and develop their design and technical capabilities.
Assist Discipline Manager in planning aspects of projects; help to coordinate department scope of work and project requirements with Project Management and other disciplines.
Support the Discipline Manager, the Director of Quality and other departments in the development, advancement and enforcement of the firm's standards, policies and procedures.
Assist Discipline Manager with the overall management and staffing of the group; help assess staffing needs and provide input regarding hiring, promotions and disciplinary actions. The Assistant Manager will also act as a temporary discipline manager in the Discipline Managers Absence.
Support Discipline Manager in establishing and maintaining relationships with clients, consultants and other essential interests to ensure high customer satisfaction.
Assist Business Development, Marketing, and Project Management in responding to new business opportunities, including preparing proposals and participating in presentations.
Stay abreast of new technology and effectively apply it to achieve consistent, efficient and competent production of deliverables.
Assist in developing department competencies and take an active role in staff career development. Recommend training to staff and assist Discipline Manager in planning for development of same. Encourage and support licensing, professional society membership and continuing education of staff.
Assist with annual performance reviews by providing input for yearly staff evaluations and participating in performance discussions, as requested.
Mentor staff in gaining an understanding of the appropriate level of professionalism, including communication, composure and appearance.
Actively participate in professional organizations and activities, including after-hours functions, events, and promotions.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Current Professional Registration in discipline of practice
Professional society affiliation
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Office, ProjectWise
Project management and supervisory skills preferred
